We are a Haitian non-profit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged citizens from Laviktwa, a small town located in the northern region of Haiti. It all started in 2017, during a visit to Laviktwa, Jacques R. Pierre observed several challenges affecting the community. Motivated by a desire to make a difference, he proposed the creation of a WhatsApp group as a platform to bring people together and explore ways to collectively support and uplift the community. In order to make it more appealing, he named the WhatsApp group " Pitit Laviktwa Afiche'w, which translates to, Children of Laviktwa, come and support your community."
Without delay, an invitation was made to a few individuals - such as Ronel Chevalier, Bautex, Rose-Flore, and Elisabeth Joseph, the Augustes (Mrs. Esmeralda and husband), Yvel Senatus, and Robenson Damas - who immediately embraced the idea and committed themselves to the initiative. From there, we collectively agreed to remain neutral and distant from politics, religion, and all forms of discrimination. Since that day, we have shared a common mission: to give back to our home community by promoting social development, education, health care prevention, and cultural enrichment.
Since then, we have actively engaged in numerous initiatives, including repainting the community's only catholic church, establishing a library accessible to both children and the broader community, distributing school supplies every year and covid-19 essentials, providing goods to underprivileged citizens, and organizing the annual distribution of traditional Independence Day soup on January 1st. Most recently, we have been working on a project to provide access to clean and drinking water to the community.
Given our significant growth, sustained engagement , and the successful implementation of multiple community projects, we made the decision to transition the WhatsApp group into a formal nonprofit organization. We renamed it Pitit Laviktwa An Aksyon and have since registered it legally both in Haiti and in the state of Florida, USA. The organization is officially known by its acronym, PLAA - which translates to Children of Laviktwa in Action."
